Honors for Local Public Transit Authority at Annual State Meeting;
Swick is PVTA’s Outstanding Transit System Driver

Potomac Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) received honors at the recent “Excellence in Transit Awards” banquet hosted by the West Virginia Division of Public Transit at Stonewall Resort.
Receiving the PVTA nomination for “Outstanding Transit System Driver of the Year” was Joe Swick of PVTA.
“Joe is someone who has proven to be a true asset to PVTA. From driving his regular routes for Pilgrim’s Pride and the Potomac Highlands Guild, to helping on other routes, driving for medical transports, bus trades, washing buses, mowing the grass, and even maintenance in the garage, this employee is the true image of a great member of our team,” stated PVTA General Manager Doug Pixler. “Because of his great personality, friendly smile and courteous attitude he is well like by his riders as well as his co-workers. We are honored and proud of the recognition Joe has received on a state level.”
PVTA also received accolades for growth in ridership for fiscal year 2018. “We continue to grow and expand services in our 5 counties – a 7% increase in ridership is something to be proud of, and we certainly are! It is a tribute to our drivers and staff, their work and determination to provide the best service for our communities,” stated Pixler.
Last fiscal year PVTA transported 96,838 riders not only within Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral and Pendleton Counties, but to work, shopping and medical appointments in West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland.
Pixler
is enthusiastic and very positive about the future of PVTA. “In July we began offering READY RIDE in Petersburg, this popular service continues to be very busy in Romney and Moorefield and we are excited to offer it in Petersburg, and in October we will begin READY RIDE service in Keyser and we know it will make a huge difference the community.”
READY RIDE is a demand response service within a town or community. Riders reserve a time and location for pick up within the service area and the cost of the ride is just $1.50 one-way. Riders can call to make same-day ride reservations, or up to seven days in advance.
